Another turtle rescue!

We made it to the Nethermead today. Even at 7 AM it was hot, hot, muggy and hot. And there, in the middle of the Nethermead, over 500 feet from the water, was a very large turtle. He was covered with dried slime and trying to get himself out of a hole. Looks like he'd been taken there when wet and left there.
the water had made some mud which he (or she) dug into to keep cool. Now, the poor animal was dried and baking in it's shell, but not dead yet. We took him down by the water, a few inches away from the actual water. Poor thing hadn't the strength to move even those few inches. JJ was very curious, but only sniffed, didn't bother it. So we put him into the water. with bated breath. Happily, he revived and went swimming away. Hope he is okay and doesn't suffer ill consequences. It's very bad when people see wild animals as playthings, to be moved, left out of their elements, and endangered.

Meanwhile, the swan family has moved to the shady green area near the Lullwater, having been run out of their old nesting site by the geese. The whole Lullwater is covered with duckweed. It looks like slime, but apparently it is excellent food for ducks and swans.

The geese seem to be overrunning several areas of grass. JJ managed to roll on that grass pictured and got covered with goose poop. We had to hose her down before we'd let her back in the house.
