Thoughts on dog clothes

Good thing I went out to see the huge full moon on Saturday night, 'cause it was totally clouded over last night, and it's raining so hard that JJ refused to go past 3 houses - did her business, insisted on coming home. "You're not getting ME out there, what are you, nuts?" Only dogs are much more succinct. Maybe we should get her a raincoat? She is a dog who has never had clothes. Unlike Chewy, who is a small dog with a wardrobe - rain coat, winter coat, hoodie, sheepskin vest, etc. I don't know if small dogs really need the clothes, but everyone is convinced that their fur is insufficient for the cold weather. Also, they look so darned cute. ...Actually, JJ does have a doggy life preserver. Does this count as clothes? We got it because we used to go camping with her at a semi-official place with no official beach and no lifeguards, and we could swim as far as we liked. JJ, being part border collie, overcame her fear of water-so-deep-she-couldn't-touch-bottom would swim out to us, and then hang on to us for dear life, scratching and being generally annoying. Same thing happened when my daughter took her to friends' house on a lake. So, she got the brilliant idea of the doggy life preserver. It's red and looks like a cape. And JJ is now a great swimmer and doesn't need to latch on to people.

Meanwhile, the rain is wonderful, since I just planted my front lawn - not in grass, but in a periwinkle ground cover and some yellow azaleas. Should look very sprightly if/when it takes. I tried this last year, but the drought killed everything. So I did a better job this year - dug deeper, added peat moss for water retention, and am hopeful.

  2. Dog clothing is a very important aspect of taking care of our beloved animal friends. They don't need clothes every time, but when they need them we have to accomplish their wishes and buy them clothes.
